A Place to Love Dogs

Filed under: Doggies! — sashyjane @ 5:13 pm

This website is my favorite thing. They blog cute and heartwarming pictures and stories of dogs. This one in particular kills me.  I’ve reblogged it below.

Blind Boxer Bax gets a new lease on life – after being taken under the wing of a pet goose called Buttons

Owner Renata Kursa, 47, of Lublin, Poland, was heartbroken when Boxer Bak was left blind after an accident last year.

Buttons the four-year-old goose leads her pal around everywhere either by hanging onto him with her neck, or by honking to tell him which way to go.

‘But gradually Buttons got him up on his feet and starting walking him around. They’re inseparable now – they even chase the postman together,’ she said.

Longing for Spring

Filed under: Chicago, Doggies! — sashyjane @ 2:48 pm

Poor little fella is hoping this mild weather will stick around so he can come out to play.

In other news, I’m going to see some of the Writing 6 shows tonight to get a taste of what I’ll be doing this time next year. It’s kind of weird going to a show by myself. I’m going to do my best not to leer and look creepy while I nurse my drink at a corner table. Fingers crossed!

A few weekend happenings…

I found some adorable Cynthia Rowley stationery/office stuff at TJ Maxx. I think my little cubby will look a lot cheerier and brighter now.

I can’t wait to start filling the loose notes with tweet ideas.

I started working on a little chair re-do but ran out of paint before I could finish the job. I found some really pretty fabric at the antique market last weekend (1.5 yards for $2.99) and used them as my inspiration for livening up a pair of ho-hum chairs.

Before:

Not bad… but not really wowee and I needed them for my dining room table/around the house.

During:

After shots to come.  My intention was to paint the chairs cream to match my dining room table and chairs but after 3 cans, one chair still wasn’t adequately covered. Would it look bad to paint them that sort of robin’s egg blue color in the fabric? Or should I keep persisting with the cream?

Susie and Weezy came for a visit this weekend and Tater and Weezy are just the best of pals now! I took about 5,000 pictures of them sharing Tater’s cozy bed (they like to wad up the pad at the bottom of the bed to make a pillow for head propping.)

So… how was your weekend? Anybody got any fun projects planned?

Just wanted to leave you with a quick post about the sweet doggies I’ve been spending time with lately. I’ll have a fun project and a pretty tablescape to show you soon but in the meantime…

I recently dogsat for my friend Joanna. These are her babies, Dora (chocolate lab) and Bella (custom creation).

Tater has been thoroughly enjoying her new bed Mama ordered her. It’s super cozy! I kind of want one for myself!

Bullies

Filed under: Doggies!, Tater — sashyjane @ 11:24 am

**Are the photos below showing up? They show up in the editor but not when I publish**

Bullies aren’t always a bad thing. Sure, schoolyard bullies need to be stopped by bully breed dogs are wonderful! Our dog Tater is a bully breed and she could not be any sweeter if she was dipped in sugar and drizzled with honey.

Unfortunately, some bad people have decided that these bully breeds are perfect for the terrible practice of dog fighting and the bullies get a bad rap.

Leesia Teh, the fabulous Atlanta pet photographer, partnered with a wonderful campaign by the Atlanta Humane Society to end dogfighting. She took photos of three rehabbed bullies with three of the volunteers who help them adjust to life outside of dog fighting. These pictures are the sweetest things and I can’t help but cry when I look at them!

You can read here where Leesia photographed one of Michael Vick’s rescued dogs. This sweet boy was rehabbed and adopted by Brandon Bond who is doing great things in the Atlanta area to rescue these  naturally gentle creatures from a horrific life.

One of my favorite things about bullies is how they can change their facial expressions so drastically just by their ear placement. They can look like a totally different dog from one minute to the next depending on if their ears are perked, tucked back, one ear pulled back, etc.

Here’ s Tater showing off some of her different looks:

Comfy Cozy

When I lived in the Aumond Villa apartments my second year in Augusta, there was a mass exodus of roommates who were either getting married or going back to school. In the shuffle, things were left behind and nobody ever claimed them. For some odd reason, I felt it was my responsibility to care for these things and move them to my next apartment. Well no more. While cleaning out the cabinets and closets in preparation to move home, I separated the wheat from the chaff and either gave away or donated the unclaimed belongings.

One such belonging is a fuzzy blankie. It’s white faux fur on one side and baby blue faux suede on the other. I knew just the person who would appreciate such a treasure.

Judging from the looks of things, I’d say she likes it rather well.

Needing a Nap

Filed under: Doggies! — sashyjane @ 4:54 pm

I’m feeling quite uninspired and unbloggy.  And I sure am sleepy this afternoon. I wonder if it has anything to do with my visiting bedmates? These two sleeping beauties (who are both notorious cover and bed hogs) have spent the last two nights with me and will be here one more night.

I do so enjoy them visiting but I sure wish one of them (who shall remain nameless) didn’t make the house smell like a stinky dog. I did learn my lesson this go-round and changed my sheets to an older set and put away my white coverlet.

Something close to my heart

Filed under: Doggies! — sashyjane @ 11:12 am

As I’ve mentioned before, we are a rescue dog family.  All of the pets we’ve had {since before I was born even} have been rescues in one respect or another.

Bailey, a Walker Hound mix was Mama’s adopted pound puppy when she got out of college.

Chipper, a beautiful Springer Spaniel was found wandering the streets in Savannah.

Booger, a goofy looking Lab/Pit Bull mix was found abandoned as a puppy {she and her sister had been dumped out by the railroad tracks where they were found by a friend of ours}

Ginnie, a bird dog mix was rescued from the pound {her owner tearfully turned her over after she learned her landlord would no longer allow pets and was leaving out poisoned dog food}

Tater, part Pit Bull, part Boxer, all lap dog was adopted via Petfinder from a local shelter {she was picked up by animal control after being dumped out somewhere.  She had 7 puppies that evening who were all adopted out in no time}

Weezy, Susie’s new baby was also found via Petfinder.

Rescue dogs are so much fun.  They’re like custom creations with quirky looks and personalities.  All of our dogs have been affectionate, sweet, funny and so loving.  If you’re in the Atlanta Area and would love to add a new sweet member to your family, please consider adopting one of the dogs at Fulton County Animal Services. These sweet babies are looking for good homes and their need is a matter of life and death.  Take a look at their adorable pictures here.

I’m an Aunt!

Filed under: Doggies!, Tater — sashyjane @ 11:23 am

I have two nieces.  One is named Emily, she belongs to my older sister, Joy.

And as of Monday, I have a new niece.  Her name is Louise and she belongs to my little sister, Susie.

See the family resemblance?

Louise is a four-year old American Bulldog mix who was living in a rescue facility in Statesboro.  Susie saw her on Petfinder and couldn’t resist.  A week later, Sassy (now known as Louise) was hers.  She’s a very hardworking girl.

Susie’s bringing her home this weekend to meet Tater and the rest of the family.  I think she and Tater will have a great deal to discuss.  They were both rescues, they were both single mothers trying to make it on their own, they both love to sleep on the sofa and they both have a crazy way of sitting.

Check out more pictures of Susie‘s new baby here.
